di freddo e malanni - of cold and illness

I know, you probably wouldn't say that from my last posts, but these days I am physically ko. Since sunday I am victim of a terrible wave of influence: there is no single inch of my bones which does not hurt (unless I take painkillers, which I hate but I can assure you that I cannot avoid them this time) and waves of shivering come and go – like now - and then fever rises.
I wanted to write about something else and also to read some of my favorite blogs tonight that my little boy has gone - after all this time - at his dad's. but I'm cold. some mulled wine is boiling already on the fire (I know, I use alternative methods to cure myself) and some Hymalaia salt in the oven (I'll tell you about this someday...) and I'm going to bed.

for now I only want to say that I had to go to the post office this morning (the system of electronic transmission of medical certificates to social security imposed by the italian state almost never works, my doctor is livid with rage) to register a letter. for me it was an exhausting 5 minutes walk but I must say it was really worth it.

a few weeks ago at the store I picked up a couple of rolls of barbapapa wrapping paper to cover my little boy's shoe boxes and turn them to toy boxes. So, what's new!? - you might say. the change for me was to go back, put the two rolls of paper back to their shelf and leave the store without having bought them, after all it was a matter of a few euro. yep. those who I had never been accustomed to count in my previous life, since I knew I could afford such purchases, and which instead I now always consider and often avoid spending. while I was walking to the checkout I remembered that last summer the teachers of the summer recreation center had wanted a shoe box from every child and had started a project, which had then come home unfinished. and I realized that we could easily finish it and reach our goal without spending a dime. and what's more with a good result.

it had to be a pencil holder, a project we had seen on TV thanks to 'paint your life', which is now our drug and to which we are both practically addicted. but my little boy decided, once the work had been completed, that he did not want any holes on the roof to put the pencils in. so here it is, the making of – in some different days – of our colourful mill.

we started from an empty milk box that has been closed again and then covered with glue and paper on which was given a coat of acrylic gesso before and one of yellow acrylic paint afterwards. the whole passed then to my little boy's hands, who chose to use his watercolors to paint the walls at its discretion.

then I've drawn in pencil doors and windows, which he has filled with colours, and I have applied the vanes – which had been cut from a piece of cardboard - and fixed them to the mill with a piece of cork and a screw, so that they can rotate. I then added a couple of decorative draws (a wheelbarrow, a plant and a cat) and I let it all dry.

ed ecco il risultato finale - and here is the final result :

this his the first anniversary without you. and she could visit your tomb today. I couldn't come, but it does not matter. I know you are with him up there. and that you very well know how much I miss you both.

on my mind

on my mind è un tema per blog (normalmente da pubblicare il venerdì) ideato da Rhonda Jean
on my mind is ( normally a Friday) blog theme started by Rhonda Jean

the object of my first order on ebay has arrived a few days ago. I have turned around it for a while, and today I have finally decided to face it, starting from a piece of cloth I had torn from an old pillowcase. I managed to sew correctly by chance no more than 10 cm. I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to repeat the operation in a deliberate and not accidental way. until I manage this, I won't devote myself to the pieces of fabrics captured in this photo, which I have bought for my little boy's carnival costume. thank goodness I have more than one month before me...

this moment

I have been grown up with bread and 'you are not capable of ' instead of butter. I obviously often didn't even try. with this idea in mind, I was also convinced that whatever I did had to be perfect. If a thing was not perfect I would have thrown it away a priori. then - once grown up - I read dyer and since then a lot of things have changed. now I have learned not to say 'I am not able to' anymore and to get in the game without aiming at perfection.

my whip stitch on the red little heart is far from being perfect. and the same goes for today's plan, another glorious first time. but those results are my results. and I'm proud of them. 'cause it's true, they are not perfect, but they are tangible proof of the fact that the 'I am not able to' concept has no reason to exist.

here is the today's project, which I had seen at  mammasorriso's. I know that I could just paste everything, but I wanted to practice with whip stitch and I decided to sew his suit... (I have got so many ideas in my head to be carried out!). his name is Mr . Somersault. I hope you like it as much as we do.

no lunch break in order to get home earlier and save on babysitter while earning one hour of cuddling. a warm bath with baking soda to relieve his itching and lower his body temperature. drop in quickly at the store to buy his favourites candies with no crap inside, while his dad comes to visit and pamper him a bit. prepare a good chicken broth, which is a perfect remedy for fever. and then, after all his evening bedtime rituals, drink a warm cup of herbal tea and go to bed early, just in case he should wake up again during the night.
